Bombus impatiens is one of the most abundant bumble bees throughout the eastern U.S. and is the species reared for commercial bumble bee pollination throughout the region. In the Midwest, the species drops off in abundance in the western states, occurring mostly in the eastern parts of the four western states. Because of its commercial availability and abundance, this species has become a model taxon for research on North American bumble bees. |
