Graduate Student of
the
Department of Entomology
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaiagn
Research:
I use metagenomics and high-throughput sequencing to detect pathogens,
like viruses, bacteria, and fungi, in pollinators belonging in the
family Apidae.
About
me:
I graduated
from the University of California at Berkeley in 2006 with a Bachelor's
in Integrative Biology. While in Berkeley, I researched the
fungal disease chytridiomycosis in amphibians found in the Sierra
Nevada. After finishing my undergraduate career, I worked in
Roche Diagnostics creating and optimizing qPCR assays to detect Chlamydia
trachomatis,
Neisseria
gonorrhoeae,
and HPV in
humans. I returned to academia in the Fall 2010 after a couple of
years of working for the man. During my free time, I enjoy
reading random Wikipedia pages, creating more stations on my Pandora
Radio account, and rock climbing.
